009 . Interlude Part 3
Three years have passed since the beautiful debut of Room With A View “First Year Departure” and finally the long-awaited “Collecting Shells At Lighthouse Hill” is on my desk, in its wonderfully looking slipcase.

First scheduled for the 21st of May, the album has been pushed back till the 23th of November. In fact, a bonus CD was planned to be released along with “Collecting Shells…” but the band seems to be really jinxed: due a summer thunderstorm, they burned the hard drive containing all the tracks which were supposed to be on the 2nd cd…And that’s a great pity, even because the nine (ten, counting the ghost track) songs of the main CD are simply amazing, showing a GREAT improvement of all the band members in every single aspect of their work. There’s a great guitar work and damn good drums texture everywhere but is specially the voice of Francesco to fit perfectly in every single second of “Collecting Shells…”. A special mention for the audio production, realized in the famous Fascination Street of Örebro (Sweden) and the stunning artworks (by Zaelia Bishop). You can see some examples here.

Talking about the atmosphere of the album, it’s seems to follow the traces of “FYD”, but taking at some point a different path into a slightly melancholic and dreamy world, where everything is pleasantly blurry, new and unknow, where the cold season is just gone and a better one is coming, and where the sounds of the sea and seagals are always on the background. Quite hard to describe dudes, it’s better if you try to understand by yourselves and figure out something looking at the artworks and listening to the samples…
1- Breathe The Water (whole)
2- Friction (sample)
3- The Farther Side Of Heaven (sample)
There’s a great multimedia section on the cd, where you can find lyrics, the staggering video of “Friction” (entirely made with the animated artworks of Zaelia …and they are simply perfect for this music!), hundreds of photos and some very interesting notes by the band.
Oh, yes…the last track “Remembering Our Goodbyes” is a weird jazzy experiment…that is absolutely great! I think they should seriously consider the idea to publish an entire album on that style, because this song is so refined and catchy that a whole new audience could start to listen to Room With A View…
Just some final notes before I go: the only flaw of the entire work is that I can’t made mp3 out of it. I perfectly understand the need to protect your work guys, but what about my new iPod? The market is going that way and frankly I think it is an irreversible process, so prevent me to copy the music I bought sounds quite naïf.
Anyway, I don’t have an iPod (yet). ^__^
Support them, you bastards (order HERE)!
